Grumeti Game Reserve was established in 1994 and covers 2,000 square kms of area. This reserve forms part of larger Serengeti Maasai Mara ecosystem, where by the annual wildebeest migration do take place between July and October.
Grumeti game reserve is located along the Northwestern border of the Serengeti National park.
This reserve can be accessed by road from Serengeti National Park, Bunda and Mugumu townships approximately 1 hr 45 minutes drive
Also the area can be accessed by air from Arusha to Seronera and Forty Ikoma Airstrip (Approximately 1hr 30min flight).
Maximum temperature of this reserve ranges from 270C – 280C in October to March while minimum temperature is 130 C between May to August.
This reserve experiences two rain seasons one occurs in March to May (long rains) and the other between September to December (Short rains).
This Reserve is one of a handful of buffer zones which provide a wide chance for various animals to come across for the purpose of searching water.
Gurumeti game reserve is the place where the migration corridors take place. This is where it is easy to see the movement of huge herds of wildebeest and zebra and this describes the Serengeti/Mara ecology itself.

The most suitable time to visit this reserve is from June to October and January to February.
